Conceptualizing the Average Groundwater Storage and Recharge Fluxes in Africa

February 28, 2021Kobus HaumannUncategorized4170 comments

The image below illustrates a recharge flux and groundwater storage map as well as correlating bar graphs highlighting the 10 top and bottom countries in Africa.

The substantial contribution of the sedimentary Karoo Basin is evident in providing enormous aquifer storage potential to South Africa. It is also interesting to note how storage potential increases in countries in southern and especially northern Africa, almost as a buffer to compensate for decreased recharge potential due to geological properties and/or decreased annual rainfall volumes.
